Aircraft F-35 is a single seat attack aircraft with delta shaped center wing, powered by a turbojet engine and equipped for night and all weather flying. It is designed for high supersonic speeds but has also very good characteristics in the low speed range. The control surfaces are entirely servo operated and an autopilot can be used for either automatic control or stability augmentation when using manual control. Landing gear and speed brakes of flap type are hydraulically operated. A manually operated drag chute can be deployed in order to reduce the landing roll-distance. Furthermore the aircraft is equipped with a tail hook. The cockpit consists of an air-conditioned pressure cabin with jettisonable canopy and ejection seat.

The jet engine, type RMGC (Rolls Royce Avon MK60) is equipped with afterburner. The sea level static thrust is 12700 pounds at military power and 17250 pounds at max. power (afterburner). The A/B range extends from military power to appr. 90 9/0 RPM.

The Weapons Delivery Navigation System (WDNS) is a self-contained, all-weather, all-attitude integrated navigation and weapon Delivery system. It obtains and processes aircraft inertial and air data to solve the navigation problem and coordinate effective air to ground and air to air weapon Delivery. Related functions consist of automatic destination sequencing, avoidance steering, fuel monitoring, stores management and Built-In-Test.

The basic armament installation consists of two 30 mm automatic guns, one in each inner wing. The right gun can be replaced by a 12.7 mm practice installation. Bombs, rockets and missiles can be carried on pylons on the lower surface of the wings and fuselage. The aircraft can be equipped with two drop tanks which are installed on special pylons below the fuselage.

From the basic F-35 (DTK AR-113 The Queen) a reconnaissance version RF-35 is developed, the main difference being that RF-35 is equipped with photo reconnaissance equipment.

The training version, TF-35, which also is developed from the basic F-35, has two seats in tandem and dual controls. Is equipped with one gun only, but is in other respects almost identical with the basic version. However, the internal fuel capacity is somewhat reduced.
